So when the envoys came to the household of Lot, 61 he said: "Behold, you are people unknown [here]!" 62 "We have come to you with news," they said, "of what your people doubt; 63 "We have brought to thee that which is inevitably due, and assuredly we tell the truth. 64 "So leave with your family late in the night, yourself remaining in the rear, and let none turn back to look, and go where you will be commanded." 65 We informed him that the unbelievers would be utterly destroyed. 66 The inhabitants of the city came in (mad) joy (at news of the young men). 67 He said: 'These are my guests; do not shame me. 68 And fear Allah and do not disgrace me." 69 They said, 'Have we not forbidden thee all beings?' 70 He said, "Here are my daughters, if you must act in this way." 71 By your life, they wandered on in their wild intoxication 72 and thereupon the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them at sunrise. 73 and We turned those [sinful towns] upside down, and rained down upon them stone-hard blows of chastisement pre-ordained. 74 Indeed in that are signs for those who discern. 75 And lo! it is upon a road still uneffaced. 76 Behold! in this is a sign for those who believed. 77 The people of the Wood were also surely wrongdoers. 78 So We exacted retribution from them. They were both on an open highway, plain to see. 79
