So, when the envoys came to the folk of Lot, 61 he said: "Surely you are an unknown folk." 62 They said: "Nay, we have come to you with that (torment) which they have been doubting. 63 And we have come to you with the truth, and we are most surely truthful. 64 “Therefore journey with your household while a portion of the night remains, and you tread behind them – and none of you may turn around and see, and proceed directly to the place you are commanded to.” 65 We issued this command to him, for they were going to be destroyed in the morning. 66 The people of the town came along, revelling, 67 Lut said: "These are my guests: disgrace me not: 68 "And do not disgrace me. Have some fear of God." 69 They replied: "Did we not forbid you again and again to extend hospitality to all and sundry?" 70 He said, "Here are my daughters, if you must act in this way." 71 By thy life (O Muhammad) they moved blindly in the frenzy of approaching death. 72 Then the shout took hold of them at the sunrise. 73 And We utterly confounded them, and We rained upon them stones of heated clay. 74 Indeed in that are signs for those who discern. 75 That town lies on a road which still exists. 76 Indeed in that is a sign for the believers. 77 AND THE DWELLERS of the wooded dales [of Madyan, too,] were inveterate evildoers, 78 and so We inflicted Our retribution on them. And behold, both these [sinful communities] lived by a highway, [to this day] plain to see 79
