Then, when the Messengers (the angels) came unto the family of Lout (Lot). 61 He said: verily ye are a people stranger. 62 They said: "Nay, we have come to you with that (torment) which they have been doubting. 63 "Yet we bring to you the truth, and we are truthful. 64 So set forth, thou with thy family, in a watch of the night, and follow after the backs of them, and let not any one of you turn round; and depart unto the place you are commanded.' 65 And We decreed for him that commandment, that the last remnant of those should be cut off in the morning. 66 And the people of the city came [unto Lot,] rejoicing at the glad tiding. 67 He said, 'These are my guests; put me not to shame, 68 "But fear Allah, and shame me not." 69 They said: forbade we not thee against the worlds? 70 [Lot] said: "[Take instead] these daughters of mine, if you must do [whatever you intend to do]!" 71 By thy life (O Muhammad) they moved blindly in the frenzy of approaching death. 72 So they were seized by the mighty blast at break of day; 73 And We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of hard clay. 74 There are certainly signs in that for those who can learn a lesson -- 75 surely it is on a way yet remaining; 76 Surely! Therein is indeed a sign for the believers. 77 The people of the Wood were also surely wrongdoers. 78 So we took vengeance on them; and lo! they both are on a high-road plain to see. 79
