AND WHEN the messengers [of God] came to the house of Lot, 61 He said: Surely you are an unknown people. 62 They said: "Yea, we have come to thee to accomplish that of which they doubt. 63 and we are bringing thee the certainty [of its fulfilment]: for, behold, we are speaking the truth indeed. 64 "Then travel in a part of the night with your family, and you go behind them in the rear, and let no one amongst you look back, but go on to where you are ordered." 65 And We made known this decree to him, that the last remnants of those (sinners) should be cut off by the morning. 66 And the inhabitants of the city came rejoicing (at the news of the young men's arrival). 67 He said: "These are my guests, so do not disgrace me. 68 Fear God and do not shame me." 69 "Did we not restrain you," they said, "from (entertaining) creatures from the outside world?" 70 Lot exclaimed in exasperation: "If you are bent on doing something, then here are my daughters." 71 By your life, (O Prophet), they went about blindly stumbling in their intoxication. 72 Then the mighty Blast caught them at sunrise, 73 And We made the upside there of downwards, and We rained on them stones of baked clay. 74 Verily therein are signs for men of sagacity. 75 This (city) lies on a road that still survives. 76 surely in this there is a sign for those who believe. 77 Since the People of the Forest were unjust, 78 So We took vengeance on them. And verily both are on a high-road open. 79
