And certainly did the companions of Thamud deny the messengers. 80 And We brought Our signs unto them, yet they were averting themselves therefrom. 81 They carved out dwellings in the mountains, and lived in security -- 82 But the (mighty) Blast seized them of a morning, 83 And what they earned did not avail them. 84 We have created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, for a genuine purpose. The Day of Judgment will certainly approach, so (Muhammad) forgive them graciously. 85 Lo! Thy Lord! He is the All-Wise Creator. 86 And We have bestowed upon thee the Seven Oft-repeated (verses) and the Grand Qur'an. 87 So covet not things We have bestowed on a portion of them to enjoy, and do not grieve for them, and protect those who believe; 88 And proclaim, “Indeed I, yes I, am the clear Herald of Warning.” 89 [For, thou art the bearer of a divine writ] such as We have bestowed from on high upon those who [afterwards] broke it up into parts, 90 Those who have made the scripture bits. 91 Them, by thy Lord, We shall question, every one, 92 Of what they used to do. 93 So declare to them what We have enjoined, and turn away from idolaters. 94 verily, We shall suffice thee against all who [now] deride [this message - all] 95 even against those who set up with God another god. Certainly they will soon know! 96 We do indeed know how your heart is distressed at what they say. 97 So exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord and be of those who prostrate [to Him]. 98 And serve your Lord until there comes to you that which is certain. 99
