Al-nahl 3 of 16

Your Lord is only One. The hearts of those who do not believe in the life hereafter dislike (the truth). They are puffed up with pride. 22 Assuredly Allah knoweth that which they keep hidden and that which they proclaim. Lo! He loveth not the proud. 23 And when it is said to them, "What has your Lord sent down?" They say, "Legends of the former peoples," 24 That they may bear their own burdens in full on the Day of Resurrection and some of the burdens of those whom they misguide without knowledge. Unquestionably, evil is that which they bear. 25

Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
