They ask you about "the spirit". Say: "The spirit descends by the command of my Lord, but you have been given only a little knowledge." 85 And if We willed We could have taken away the revelations which We have sent to you – you would then not find anyone who could advocate for you before Us for this. 86 excepting by some mercy of thy Lord; surly His favour to thee is great. 87 Say: If men and jinn should combine together to bring the like of this Quran, they could not bring the like of it, though some of them were aiders of others. 88 And certainly We have explained for men in this Quran every kind of similitude, but most men do not consent to aught but denying. 89 They say: "We shall not believe in thee, until thou cause a spring to gush forth for us from the earth, 90 "Or (until) thou have a garden of date trees and vines, and cause rivers to gush forth in their midst, carrying abundant water; 91 "Or thou cause the sky to fall in pieces, as thou sayest (will happen), against us; or thou bring Allah and the angels before (us) face to face: 92 "Or thou have a house adorned with gold, or thou mount a ladder right into the skies. No, we shall not even believe in thy mounting until thou send down to us a book that we could read." Say: "Glory to my Lord! Am I aught but a man,- a messenger?" 93
