The Cave (Al-Kahf)
110 verses, revealed in Mecca after Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah) before The Bee (Al-nahl)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Praise be to Allah Who has revealed to His servant the Book devoid of all crookedness; 1 unswerving. To warn of great violence from Him, and to give good tidings to the believers who do good deeds that theirs shall be a goodly wage 2 In which they will remain forever 3 And to warn those who say “Allah has chosen a child.” 4 (A thing) whereof they have no knowledge, nor (had) their fathers, Dreadful is the word that cometh out of their mouths. They speak naught but a lie. 5 Then perhaps you would kill yourself through grief over them, [O Muhammad], if they do not believe in this message, [and] out of sorrow. 6 We have made whatever exists on the earth its adornment to test and try them (and) know who acts better; 7 In the ultimate, We shall reduce all that is on the earth to a barren plain. 8 Do you think that the Men of the Cave and the Inscription were one of Our wondrous signs? 9 When the youths took refuge in the Cave saying, 'Our lord, give us mercy from Thee, and furnish us with rectitude in our affair.' 10 And thereupon We veiled their ears in the cave for many a year, 11 Then roused them to ascertain which of the two groups could account for the period they had stayed. 12
