Hizb 31
< random >
So they twain set out till, when they were in the ship, he made a hole therein. (Moses) said: Hast thou made a hole therein to drown the folk thereof? Thou verily hast done a dreadful thing. 71 He answered: "Did I not tell thee that thou canst have no patience with me?" 72 He said, "Do not take me to task for what I have forgotten, and do not be hard on me on account of what I have done!" 73 And so the two went on, till, when they met a young man, [the sage] slew him - [whereupon Moses] exclaimed: "Hast thou slain an innocent human being without [his having taken] another man's life? Indeed, thou hast done a terrible thing!" 74 ۞ [Al-Khidhr] said, "Did I not tell you that with me you would never be able to have patience?" 75 Moses replied, "If I ever ask you about anything after this, do not let me accompany you. I will have given you sufficient excuse." 76 Then they proceeded: until, when they came to the inhabitants of a town, they asked them for food, but they refused them hospitality. They found there a wall on the point of falling down, but he set it up straight. (Moses) said: "If thou hadst wished, surely thou couldst have exacted some recompense for it!" 77 He said: This shall be separation between me and you; now I will inform you of the significance of that with which you could not have patience. 78 As for the ship, it belonged to certain poor men, who toiled upon the sea; and I desired to damage it, for behind them there was a king who was seizing every ship by brutal force. 79 As for the lad, his parents were believers; and we were afraid he would impose on them insolence and unbelief; 80 We hoped their Lord would give them a substitute better than him in virtue and goodness. 81 "And as for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the town; and there was under it a treasure belonging to them; and their father was a righteous man, and your Lord intended that they should attain their age of full strength and take out their treasure as a mercy from your Lord. And I did it not of my own accord. That is the interpretation of those (things) over which you could not hold patience." 82
