And they ask you regarding Zul-Qarnain; say, “I shall recite his story to you.” 83 Surely We established him in the land and granted him means of access to every thing. 84 With these he traveled 85 To the extent that when he reached the setting-place of the sun, he found it setting in a muddy spring, and found a nation there; We said, “O Zul-Qarnain – either punish them or choose kindness for them.” 86 He said, "As for one who wrongs, we will punish him. Then he will be returned to his Lord, and He will punish him with a terrible punishment. 87 But he who believes and does the right will have an excellent reward, and we shall make things easy for him." 88 Then followed he (another) way, 89 Until, when he came to the rising of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We had not made against it any shield. 90 (He left them) as they were: We completely understood what was before him. 91 Then he followed a way 92 until, when he reached between the two barriers, he found this side of them a people scarcely able to understand speech. 93 They said, "Dhu 'l-Qarnayn, Gog and Magog are ravaging this land. Would you establish a barrier between us and them if we pay you a certain tax?" 94 He said: "(The power) in which my Lord has established me is better (than tribute): Help me therefore with strength (and labour): I will erect a strong barrier between you and them: 95 Bring me blocks of iron to fill up the passage between the two mountains." He told them to ply their bellows until the iron became hot as fire. Then he told them to pour on it molten brass." 96 Thereafter they could neither scale it, nor could they pierce it. 97 [Dhul-Qarnayn] said, "This is a mercy from my Lord; but when the promise of my Lord comes, He will make it level, and ever is the promise of my Lord true." 98 ۞ And on that Day [i.e. the Day Ya'juj and Ma'juj (Gog and Magog) will come out], We shall leave them to surge like waves on one another, and the Trumpet will be blown, and We shall collect them all together. 99 And on that Day We shall present Hell to the disbelievers, plain to view, 100 whose eyes had been veiled against Our Quran and who were not able to hear (its recitation). 101
