Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Kaf. Ha. Ya. 'Ain. Sad. 1 Mention of the mercy of thy Lord to His bondman Zakariyya. 2 when he called upon his Lord in secret, 3 saying: 'O my Lord, my bones are enfeebled, and my head glows silver with age. Yet, never Lord, have I been unblessed in prayer to You. 4 “And I fear my relatives after me and my wife is barren therefore bestow upon me from Yourself one who will take up my work.” 5 Who should inherit me and inherit from the children of Yaqoub, and make him, my Lord, one in whom Thou art well pleased. 6 (He was told): "Zechariah, We bring you the good news of the birth of a son whose name shall be Yahya (John), one whose namesake We never created before." 7 He said: "My Lord! How can I have a son, when my wife is barren, and I have reached the extreme old age." 8 (The angel) said, "This is true, but your Lord says, 'For Me it is easy; I created you when you did not exist". 9 He said, “My Lord, give me a sign”; He said, “Your token is that you will not speak to people for three nights, although in proper health.” 10 Thereupon Zechariah came out from the sanctuary and directed his people by gestures to extol His glory by day and by night. 11 O Yahya! hold fast the book. And We vouchsafed unto him wisdom, while yet a child. 12 We gave him compassion and purity. He was a pious human being, 13 and cherishing to his parents. Never was he insolent or rebellious. 14 Peace on him the day he was born, and the day he dieth and the day he shall be raised alive! 15
