Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Kaf- Ha-Ya-'Ain-Sad. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 A mention of the Mercy of your Lord to his worshiper Zachariah, 2 When he softly prayed to his Lord. 3 He said: "Lord! My bones have grown feeble and my head is glistening with age; yet, never have my prayers to You, my Lord, been unfruitful. 4 now I fear my kinsmen when I am gone. [I have no hope of their continuing my mission] for my wife is barren, so grant me a successor from Yourself, 5 who shall be my inheritor and the inheritor of the House of Jacob; and make him, my Lord, well-pleasing.' 6 O Zakariyya! verily We give thee the glad tidings of a boy: his name shall be Yahya; We have not afore-time made his namesake. 7 'How shall I have a son, Lord' he asked, 'when my wife is barren, and I am advanced in years' 8 He said: So (it will be). Thy Lord saith: It is easy for Me, even as I created thee before, when thou wast naught. 9 He said: "O Lord, give me a token." "Though sound," He answered, "you will not talk to any one for three nights running." 10 Thereupon Zechariah came out from the sanctuary and directed his people by gestures to extol His glory by day and by night. 11 (We said): 'O John, hold fast to the Book', and We bestowed on him judgment while yet a child 12 And tenderness from Our presence and purity, and he was God-fearing. 13 kind to his parents, not arrogant or a rebellious person. 14 'Peace be upon him, the day he was born, and the day he dies, and the day he is raised up alive!' 15
