Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Kaf-Ha-Ya-'Ain-Sad. 1 [This is] a mention of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zechariah 2 When he called out to his Sustainer in the secrecy of his heart, 3 And said: "O my Lord, my bones decay, my head is white and hoary, yet in calling You, O Lord, I have never been deprived. 4 “And I fear my relatives after me and my wife is barren therefore bestow upon me from Yourself one who will take up my work.” 5 Who will be heir to me, and heir to the house of Jacob; and make him obedient to You, O Lord." 6 "Zachariah, We bring you good news of a son whose name shall be John. We have not given such a name to anyone before." 7 He said: "My Lord! How can I have a son, when my wife is barren, and I have reached the extreme old age." 8 He (the angel) said, “So it is; your Lord says, ‘This is easy for Me – in fact I created you before this, at a time when you did not exist.’” 9 He said: my Lord appoint for me a sign. Allah said: thy sign is that thou shalt not speak unto mankind for three nights, while sound. 10 He therefore emerged upon his people from the mosque, and told them through gestures, “Keep proclaiming the Purity (of your Lord) morning and evening.” 11 'O John, take the Book forcefully'; and We gave him judgment, yet a little child, 12 and tenderness [of heart] and purity. He was pious, 13 and cherishing to his parents. Never was he insolent or rebellious. 14 He was born and died in peace and will be brought back to life again in peace. 15
