Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Kaf Ha Ya Ain Suad. 1 Mention of the mercy of thy Lord to His bondman Zakariyya. 2 when he called upon his Lord in secret, 3 he prayed: "O my Sustainer! Feeble have become my bones, and my head glistens with grey hair. But never yet, O my Lord, has my prayer unto Thee remained unanswered. 4 "Now, behold, I am afraid of [what] my kinsfolk [will do] after I am gone, for my wife has always been barren. Bestow, then, upon me, out of Thy grace, the gift of a successor 5 Who will inherit me and inherit from the family of Jacob. And make him, my Lord, pleasing [to You]." 6 O Zakariya! surely We give you good news of a boy whose name shall be Yahya: We have not made before anyone his equal. 7 "How can I have a son, O Lord" he said, "when my wife is barren and I am old and decrepit?" 8 He said: So shall it be, your Lord says: It is easy to Me, and indeed I created you before, when you were nothing. 9 He said: My Lord! Appoint for me some token. He said: Thy token is that thou, with no bodily defect, shalt not speak unto mankind three nights. 10 Then he came out to his people from Al-Mihrab (a praying place or a private room, etc.), he told them by signs to glorify Allah's Praises in the morning and in the afternoon. 11 To John We said, "Hold fast the Book," and while he was still a child, We bestowed upon him wisdom, 12 And compassion from Our presence, and purity; and he was devout, 13 honoring his parents, being neither arrogant nor rebellious. 14 Peace be upon him on the day he was born and the day he dies, and on him the day when he is raised up alive. 15
