(O Muhammad), recite in the Book the account of Abraham. Most surely he was a man of truth, a Prophet. 41 Behold, he said to his father: "O my father! why worship that which heareth not and seeth not, and can profit thee nothing? 42 “O my father, indeed a knowledge has come to me which did not come to you – therefore follow me, I will show you the Straight Path.” 43 O my father! Serve not the devil. Lo! the devil is a rebel unto the Beneficent. 44 O My father! verily I fear that there may touch thee a torment from the Compassionate so that thou become to the Satan a companion. 45 Said he, 'What, art thou shrinking from my gods, Abraham? Surely, if thou givest not over, I shall stone thee; so forsake me now for some while.' 46 Ibrahim (Abraham) said: "Peace be on you! I will ask Forgiveness of my Lord for you. Verily! He is unto me, Ever Most Gracious. 47 "And I shall turn away from you and from those whom you invoke besides Allah. And I shall call on my Lord; and I hope that I shall not be unblest in my invocation to my Lord." 48 Thereupon Abraham dissociated himself from his people and the deities they worshipped instead of Allah, and We bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob and made each of them a Prophet; 49 And We bestowed of Our Mercy on them, and We granted them lofty honour on the tongue of truth. 50
