And certainly We revealed to Musa, saying: Travel by night with My servants, then make for them a dry path in the sea, not fearing to be overtaken, nor being afraid. 77 Pharaoh pursued them with his legions so they were overwhelmed from the sea with that which drowned them. 78 And Pharaoh led his people astray and did not guide [them]. 79 Children of Israel, We saved you from your enemy and promised to settle you on the right side of the peaceful Mount Tur (Sinai) and We sent you manna and quails. 80 “Eat the good clean things We have provided you, and do not exceed the limits in respect of it causing My wrath to descend upon you; and indeed the one on whom My wrath descended, has fallen.” 81 Yet withal, behold, I forgive all sins unto any who repents and attains to faith and does righteous deeds, and thereafter keeps to the right path. 82 ۞ "And what made you hasten from your people, O Musa (Moses)?" 83 He said: They are close upon my track. I hastened unto Thee, my Lord, that Thou mightest be well pleased. 84 But God said, "We have tested your people in your absence. The Samiri has led them astray." 85 So Moses returned to his people, angry and grieved. He said, "O my people, did your Lord not make you a good promise? Then, was the time [of its fulfillment] too long for you, or did you wish that wrath from your Lord descend upon you, so you broke your promise [of obedience] to me?" 86 They said: "We broke not the promise to you, of our own will, but we were made to carry the weight of the ornaments of the [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh)] people, then we cast them (into the fire), and that was what As-Samiri suggested." 87 He therefore made a calf for them – a lifeless body, making sounds like a cow – so they said, “This is your God and the God of Moosa; whereas Moosa has forgotten.” 88 What! Did they not see that it did not speak a word to them in return, and for them it could own neither harm nor benefit? 89
