And assuredly We revealed unto Musa, saying: depart in night with my bondmen, and make for them in the sea a path dry: thou shalt fear neither overtaking, nor shalt thou be afraid. 77 Then Pharaoh pursued them with his forces, but the waters completely overwhelmed them and covered them up. 78 because Pharaoh had led his people astray and had not guided [them] aright. 79 Children of Israel, We delivered you from your enemy; and We made covenant with you upon the right side of the Mount, and sent down on you manna and quails: 80 [Saying], "Eat from the good things with which We have provided you and do not transgress [or oppress others] therein, lest My anger should descend upon you. And he upon whom My anger descends has certainly fallen." 81 And lo! verily I am Forgiving toward him who repenteth and believeth and doeth good, and afterward walketh aright. 82 ۞ [Allah] said, "And what made you hasten from your people, O Moses?" 83 He said, "They are following in my footsteps, while I have hastened to You, my Lord, to please You." 84 Said He, 'We have tempted thy people since thou didst leave them. The Samaritan has misled them into error.' 85 Then Moses returned very angry and sorrowful to his people, saying, 'My people, did your Lord not promise a fair promise to you? Did the time of the covenant seem so long to you, or did you desire that anger should alight on you from your Lord, so that you failed in your tryst with me?' 86 They said: We broke not tryst with thee of our own will, but we were laden with burdens of ornaments of the folk, then cast them (in the fire), for thus As-Samiri proposed. 87 (Then he brought out for them a Calf, a mere body that lowed; and they said, 'This is your god, and the god of Moses, whom he has forgotten.' 88 What? Did they not see that thing returned no speech unto them, neither had any power to hurt or profit them? 89
