Certainly Aaron had said to them even before (the return of Moses): "My people, you were fallen into error because of the calf. Surely your Lord is Most Compassionate; so follow me and obey my command." 90 They said: "We will not stop worshipping it (i.e. the calf), until Musa (Moses) returns to us." 91 (After rebuking his people) Moses turned to Aaron and said: "Aaron! What prevented you, when you saw them going astray, 92 That thou followedst me not! Hast thou disobeyed my command? 93 Aaron answered: "Son of my mother! Do not seize me with my beard, nor by (the hair of) my head. I feared that on returning you might say: 'You sowed discord among the Children of Israel, and did not pay heed to my words.'" 94 Musa said: what was thy object, O Samiri? 95 He said, "I saw what they did not see, so I took a handful [of dust] from the track of the messenger and threw it, and thus did my soul entice me." 96 Moses said, "Go away! Throughout your life you will not be able to let anyone touch you. This will be your punishment in this life. The time for your final punishment is inevitable. You will never be able to avoid it. Look at your god which you have been worshipping. We will burn it in the fire and scatter its ashes into the sea." 97 Your God is only Allah, the One other than whom there is no god. He comprehendeth everything in knowledge. 98 And so We narrate to you the stories of the past, and We have given you a remembrance from Us. 99 Whoever turns away from it (this Quran i.e. does not believe in it, nor acts on its orders), verily, they will bear a heavy burden (of sins) on the Day of Resurrection, 100 They will abide in this (state): and grievous will the burden be to them on that Day,- 101 The Day when the Horn shall be blown. On that Day, We shall assemble all the sinners with blued eyes, 102 They shall consult together secretly: You did tarry but ten (centuries). 103 We are Best Aware of what they utter when their best in conduct say: Ye have tarried but a day. 104
