When We said to the angels, "Prostrate yourselves to Adam", they prostrated themselves, but not Iblis: he refused. 116 So We said; "O Adam, he is truly your enemy and your wife's. Do not let him have you turned out of Paradise and come to grief. 117 Verily it is thine that thou shalt not hunger therein nor go naked. 118 And indeed, you will not be thirsty therein or be hot from the sun." 119 But then Satan tempted him by saying: "O Adam, should I show you the tree of immortality, and a kingdom that will never know any wane?" 120 Then they twain ate thereof, so that their shame became apparent unto them, and they began to hide by heaping on themselves some of the leaves of the Garden. And Adam disobeyed his Lord, so went astray. 121 Thereafter his Lord chose him, and turned again unto him, and He guided him. 122 God then told them, "Get out of here all of you; you are each other's enemies. When My guidance comes to you, those who follow it will not go astray nor will they endure any misery. 123 but whosoever turns away from My remembrance, his shall be a life of narrowness, and on the Resurrection Day We shall raise him blind.' 124 He shall say, 'O my Lord, why hast thou raised me blind, and I was wont to see?' 125 He will say: Even so, Our communications came to you but you neglected them; even thus shall you be forsaken this day. 126 And thus do We recompense him who transgresses beyond bounds and believes not in the Signs of his Lord: and the Penalty of the Hereafter is far more grievous and more enduring. 127 Hath it not served as guidance to them how many a generation We have destroyed before them, amidst whose dwellings they walk! Verily therein are signs for men of sagacity. 128
