The Prophets (Al-Anbyaa')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ The people’s reckoning is near, whereas they are in neglect, turned away! 1 Whenever there comes unto them any new reminder from their Sustainer, they but listen to it with playful amusement, 2 Their minds are lost in frivolous pastimes; and the evil-doers discuss secretly: "Is he not but only a man like you? Then why are you taken in by magic seeingly?" 3 He said: 'My Lord has knowledge of what is said in the heavens and on earth. He is the Hearer, the Knower' 4 Nay! say they: Medleys of dreams; nay! he has forged it; nay! he is a poet; so let him bring to us a sign as the former (prophets) were sent (with). 5 There did not believe before them any town which We destroyed, will they then believe? 6 And We sent not (as Our messengers) before thee other than men, whom We inspired. Ask the followers of the Reminder if ye know not? 7 And We did not make the prophets forms not eating food, nor were they immortal [on earth]. 8 Then we fulfilled the promise unto them. So we delivered them and whom We would, and We destroyed the prodigals. 9 We have revealed a Book to you which is admonition for you. Will you not then understand? 10
