The Prophets (Al-Anbyaa')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ The people’s reckoning is near, whereas they are in neglect, turned away! 1 no Remembrance from their Lord comes to them lately renewed, but they listen to it yet playing, 2 Their hearts toying as with trifles. The wrong-doers conceal their private counsels, (saying), "Is this (one) more than a man like yourselves? Will ye go to witchcraft with your eyes open?" 3 The Prophet said: my Lord knoweth the word in the heavens and the earth, and He is the Hearer, the Knower. 4 "Nay," they say: "[Muhammad propounds] the most involved and confusing of dreams!" "Nay, but he has invented [all] this!" - "Nay, but he is [only] a poet!" - [and,] "Let him, then, come unto us with a miracle, just as those [prophets] of old were sent [with miracles]?" 5 There is not a township before them which did not believe which We have not destroyed; so will they believe? 6 (O Muhammad), even before you We never sent any other than human beings as Messengers, and to them We sent revelation. Ask the People of the Book if you do not know. 7 and neither did We endow them with bodies that could dispense with food nor were they immortal. 8 then We made true the promise We gave them and We delivered them, and whomsoever We would; and We destroyed the prodigal. 9 We have sent down to you a Book which has a reminder for you. Do you not understand? 10
