The Prophets (Al-Anbyaa')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Reckoning for mankind is drawing near, yet they are heedless and turn away. 1 Whenever a new advice comes to them from their Lord, they do not listen to it except while playing. 2 their hearts set on passing delights; yet they who are [thus] bent on wrongdoing conceal their innermost thoughts [when they say to one another,] "Is this [Muhammad] anything but a mortal like yourselves? Will you, then, yield to [his] spellbinding eloquence with your eyes open?" 3 The Prophet said: my Lord knoweth the word in the heavens and the earth, and He is the Hearer, the Knower. 4 They have said, "It, (the Quran), is only the result of some confused dreams. He is only a poet. He should show us some miracles, as the ancient Prophets had done." 5 Not a township believed of those which We destroyed before them (though We sent them portents): would they then believe? 6 Before thee, also, the messengers We sent were but men, to whom We granted inspiration: If ye realise this not, ask of those who possess the Message. 7 nor did We fashion them as bodies that ate not food, neither were they immortal; 8 then We made true the promise We gave them and We delivered them, and whomsoever We would; and We destroyed the prodigal. 9 Now We have revealed unto you a Scripture wherein is your Reminder. Have ye then no sense? 10
