۞ AND, INDEED, long before [the time of Moses] We vouchsafed unto Abraham his consciousness of what is right; and We were aware of [what moved] him 51 when he said unto his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so intensely devoted?" 52 They replied: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: assuredly ye, ye and your fathers, have been in error manifest. 54 They said: Bringest thou unto us the truth, or art thou some jester? 55 He said, "[No], rather, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who created them, and I, to that, am of those who testify. 56 And by Allah I shall surely devise a plot against your idols after ye turned away backward. 57 So he broke them to pieces, (all) but the biggest of them, that they might turn (and address themselves) to it. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? Indeed, he is of the wrongdoers." 59 They said, "We heard a youth talk of them: He is called Abraham." 60 They said, “Therefore bring him in front of the people, perhaps they may testify.” 61 (On Abraham's arrival) they said: "Abraham, are you he who has done this to our gods?" 62 He answered: "Nay, it was this one, the biggest of them, that did it: but ask them [yourselves] - provided they can speak!" 63 They then turned to themselves, and said: verily ye it is who are the wrong-doers. 64 Then they turned to themselves (their first thought and said): "Indeed you [Ibrahim (Abraham)] know well that these (idols) speak not!" 65 (Abraham) said, "Do ye then worship, besides Allah, things that can neither be of any good to you nor do you harm? 66 Fie on you and all that ye worship instead of Allah! Have ye then no sense? 67 They said, 'Burn him, and help your gods, if you would do aught.' 68 "Turn cold, O fire," We said, "and give safety to Abraham." 69 Then they sought a stratagem against him: but We made them the ones that lost most! 70 And We rescued him and Lout (Lot) to the land which We have blessed for the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns). 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac and, as an additional gift, (a grandson), Jacob, and We made righteous men of every one (of them). 72 And We made them leaders to guide (the people) by Our command; and We inspired them to perform good deeds and observe their moral obligations and pay the zakat; and they obeyed Us. 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge and delivered him from the city which practiced abomination. They were indeed a wicked people. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Verily he was of the righteous. 75
