۞ AND, INDEED, long before [the time of Moses] We vouchsafed unto Abraham his consciousness of what is right; and We were aware of [what moved] him 51 When he said to his father and his people: What are these images to whose worship you cleave? 52 They replied: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: Verily ye and your fathers were in plain error. 54 They said: Have you brought to us the truth, or are you one of the triflers? 55 He said: "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them and of that I am one of the witnesses. 56 "And by Allah, I shall plot a plan (to destroy) your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs." 57 So he broke them into fragments, all but a great one they had, for haply they would return to it. 58 'Who has done this to our gods' they exclaimed. 'He must surely be a harmdoer' 59 They said, 'We heard a young man making mention of them, and he was called Abraham.' 60 The others said: "Bring him, then, before the eyes of the people that they may see (what will be done to him)." 61 They said, "Have you done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He said, "Rather, this - the largest of them - did it, so ask them, if they should [be able to] speak." 63 So they turned to themselves and said, "Surely ye are the ones in the wrong!" 64 Again they were inverted upon their heads; saying, “You know well that these do not speak.” 65 (So Abraham) said: "Then why do you worship something apart from God that cannot profit you or do you harm? 66 Fie on you and on what you serve besides Allah; what! do you not then understand? 67 They said, 'Burn him, and help your gods, if you would do aught.' 68 "Turn cold, O fire," We said, "and give safety to Abraham." 69 And they intended for him harm, but We made them the greatest losers. 70 for We saved him and Lot, [his brother's son, by guiding them] to the land which We have blessed for all times to come. 71 And We bestowed upon him Ishaque (Isaac), and (a grandson) Ya'qub (Jacob). Each one We made righteous. 72 and appointed them leaders to guide by Our Command and We revealed to them to do good deeds, and to establish the prayer, and the giving of charity, and they were for Us worshipers. 73 AND UNTO Lot, too, We vouchsafed sound judgment and knowledge [of right and wrong,] and saved him from that community which was given to deeds of abomination. [We destroyed those people - for,] verily, they were people lost in evil, depraved 74 Thus We admitted him to Our grace. He is surely one of the righteous. 75

Notes and Instructions
قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
