۞ Surely We had bestowed wisdom upon Abraham even earlier, and We knew him well. 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these images, to which you are devoted?" 52 They said:"We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, 'Then assuredly you and your fathers have been in manifest error.' 54 They said: "Are you speaking in earnest, or only jesting?" 55 He said: Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them; and I am of those who testify unto that. 56 I swear by God I will do something to your idols when you have turned your backs and gone." 57 So he broke them into fragments, all but a great one they had, for haply they would return to it. 58 They said, “Who has done this to our Gods? He is indeed cruel!” 59 They said, "We heard a young man mention them who is called Abraham." 60 They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may testify." 61 (On Abraham's arrival) they said: "Abraham, are you he who has done this to our gods?" 62 He said: But this, their chief hath done it. So question them, if they can speak. 63 So they turned towards their own selves and (inwardly) said, “Indeed you yourselves are unjust.” 64 Then they reversed themselves, [saying], "You have already known that these do not speak!" 65 He said: 'Would you then worship that, instead of Allah, which can neither help nor harm you? 66 "Fie upon you, and upon the things that ye worship besides Allah! Have ye no sense?".. 67 They said: 'Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do anything' 68 We said: "O fire, become coolness and safety for Abraham." 69 And they wished to set a snare for him, but We made them the greater losers. 70 We took Abraham and Lot safely to the land in which We had sent blessings to the worlds. 71 We granted him Isaac and Jacob as a gift and helped both of them to become righteous people. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (mankind) by Our Command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds, performing Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and the giving of Zakat and of Us (Alone) they were worshippers. 73 To Lot, We gave judgment and knowledge and saved him from the village that had been committing corrupt deeds; for they were an evil nation and were debauched. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy; indeed he is among those who deserve Our proximity. 75
