۞ Surely We had bestowed wisdom upon Abraham even earlier, and We knew him well. 51 Behold! he said to his father and his people, "What are these images, to which ye are (so assiduously) devoted?" 52 They said: We found our fathers worshippers of them. 53 He said: Verily ye and your fathers were in plain error. 54 They said, “Have you brought the Truth to us, or are you just making fun?” 55 He said: "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them and of that I am one of the witnesses. 56 "And by Allah, I have a plan for your idols - after ye go away and turn your backs".. 57 So he broke them into pieces, except the chief of them, that haply they may return to it. 58 They said, “Who has done this to our Gods? He is indeed cruel!” 59 Some among them said, “We heard a youth speak ill of them – the one called Ibrahim.” 60 They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people that they may testify." 61 'Abraham' they said, 'was it you who did this to our gods' 62 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Nay, this one, the biggest of them (idols) did it. Ask them, if they can speak!" 63 Thereupon they turned to their (inner) selves and said (to themselves): "Surely it is you who are the wrong-doers." 64 Then their minds were turned upside down, and they said: "You know well that they do not speak." 65 Abraham said: "Do you, then, worship beside Allah a thing that can neither benefit you nor hurt you? 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship beside Allah. Do you have no sense?" 67 They said: "Burn him, and come to the support of your gods, if you are going to do anything." 68 We said, "O Fire! be thou cool, and (a means of) safety for Abraham!" 69 And they intended for him harm, but We made them the greatest losers. 70 And We delivered him and Lot to the land which We had blessed for the worlds. 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in addition, and all [of them] We made righteous. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding by Our command; and We revealed unto them the doing of good deeds and the establishment of prayer, and the giving of poor-rate; and of Us they were the worshippers. 73 We bestowed upon Lot sound judgement and knowledge, and We delivered him from the city that was immersed in foul deeds. They were indeed a wicked people, exceedingly disobedient. 74 And We caused him to enter into Our mercy; verily he was of the righteous. 75
