۞ Surely We had bestowed wisdom upon Abraham even earlier, and We knew him well. 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these idols to which you cling so passionately?" 52 They replied: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: "Indeed you and your fathers have been in manifest error." 54 They said, 'What, hast thou come to us with the truth, or art thou one of those that play?' 55 He said: "Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth which He created and to that I bear witness before you. 56 And, by Allah, I shall circumvent your idols after ye have gone away and turned your backs. 57 So he made them into fragments, except a large one among them, that they might return to it [and question]. 58 They said: who hath wrought this to our gods? verily he is of the wrong-doers. 59 Some among them said, “We heard a youth speak ill of them the one called Ibrahim.” 60 They said: Then bring him (hither) before the people's eyes that they may testify. 61 They said: Have you done this to our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 He said, "Rather, this - the largest of them - did it, so ask them, if they should [be able to] speak." 63 Then gathered they apart and said: Lo! ye yourselves are the wrong-doers. 64 Again they were inverted upon their heads; saying, “You know well that these do not speak.” 65 He said, “What! You worship, instead of Allah, one that neither benefits you nor harms you?” 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship beside Allah. Do you have no sense?" 67 They exclaimed: "Burn him, and [thereby] succour your gods, if you are going to do [anything]!" 68 We said: O fire! be thou cool and peace unto Ibrahim. 69 And they intended to do him an evil, but We made them the worst losers. 70 And We delivered him and Lot to the land which We had blessed for the worlds. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and [Isaac's son] Jacob as an additional gift and caused all of them to be righteous men, 72 And We made them chiefs who guide by Our command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds and the right establishment of worship and the giving of alms, and they were worshippers of Us (alone). 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge, and saved him from a people who acted villainously and were certainly wicked and disobedient. 74 and We admitted him into Our mercy; he was of the righteous. 75
