۞ And We verily gave Abraham of old his proper course, and We were Aware of him, 51 when he said unto his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so intensely devoted?" 52 They replied: 'We found our fathers worshipping them' 53 He said, “Indeed you all – you and your forefathers – were in open error.” 54 They exclaimed, "Have you brought the Truth or are you joking?" 55 He said, 'Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who originated them, and I am one of those that bear witness thereunto. 56 And by Allah I shall surely devise a plot against your idols after ye turned away backward. 57 And then he broke those [idols] to pieces, [all] save the biggest of them, so that they might [be able to] turn to it. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? Indeed, he is of the wrongdoers." 59 Said some [of them]: "We heard a youth speak of these [gods with scorn]: he is called Abraham." 60 They said, “Therefore bring him in front of the people, perhaps they may testify.” 61 They said: Have you done this to our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 He said, "Rather, this - the largest of them - did it, so ask them, if they should [be able to] speak." 63 So they returned to [blaming] themselves and said [to each other], "Indeed, you are the wrongdoers." 64 Then they reversed themselves, [saying], "You have already known that these do not speak!" 65 He said: Worship ye then instead of Allah that which cannot profit you at all, nor harm you? 66 Shame on you and on whatever you worship instead of God. Can you not understand?" 67 They said, "Burn him to ashes if you want to help your gods". 68 We said: O fire, be coolness and peace for Abraham, 69 They had sought to do evil to him, but We caused them to be the worst losers, 70 We saved him and Lot, and brought them to the land which We had blessed for all the worlds. 71 We granted him Isaac and Jacob as a gift and helped both of them to become righteous people. 72 And We made them leaders guiding by Our command. And We inspired to them the doing of good deeds, establishment of prayer, and giving of zakah; and they were worshippers of Us. 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge and delivered him from the city which practiced abomination. They were indeed a wicked people. 74 Thus We admitted him to Our grace. He is surely one of the righteous. 75
