۞ And certainly We gave to Ibrahim his rectitude before, and We knew him fully well. 51 When he said to his father and his people, "What are these statues to which you are devoted?" 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them". 53 He said: Verily ye and your fathers were in plain error. 54 They said: "Are you speaking in earnest, or only jesting?" 55 He said: "Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth which He created and to that I bear witness before you. 56 And [I swear] by Allah, I will surely plan against your idols after you have turned and gone away." 57 Then he broke them all into pieces, sparing only the supreme one among them that they may possibly return to him. 58 'Who has done this to our gods' they exclaimed. 'He must surely be a harmdoer' 59 They said: We heard a youth make mention of them, who is called Abraham. 60 They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people that they may testify." 61 They said: "Are you the one who has done this to our gods, O Ibrahim (Abraham)?" 62 He said: "Nay, this was done by - this is their biggest one! ask them, if they can speak intelligently!" 63 So they turned to themselves and said: "Verily, you are the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers)." 64 But then they relapsed into their former way of thinking and said: "Thou knowest very well that these [idols] cannot speak!" 65 (So Abraham) said: "Then why do you worship something apart from God that cannot profit you or do you harm? 66 "Fie upon you, and upon the things that ye worship besides Allah! Have ye no sense?".. 67 They said, "Burn him and support your gods - if you are to act." 68 Allah said, "O fire, be coolness and safety upon Abraham." 69 And they wished to set a snare for him, but We made them the greater losers. 70 And We delivered him and Lot to the land which We had blessed for the worlds. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac, and Jacob as a grandson. Each of them We made righteous. 72 and appointed them leaders to guide by Our Command and We revealed to them to do good deeds, and to establish the prayer, and the giving of charity, and they were for Us worshipers. 73 And We gave Lut the kingdom and knowledge, and We rescued him from the township that committed vile deeds; indeed those evil people were disobedient. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Verily he was of the righteous. 75
