۞ Before this We gave Abraham his guidance. We knew him well. 51 When he asked his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so devoted?" 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 Abraham said, "Indeed, you and your fathers have been clearly misguided." 54 They said: hast thou come unto us with the truth, or art thou of those who sport? 55 Abraham replied, "Your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them, and I bear witness to that. 56 “And, by oath of Allah, I shall seek to harm your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs.” 57 Then he broke them all into pieces, sparing only the supreme one among them that they may possibly return to him. 58 They asked (on return): "Who has done this to our gods? He is surely a mischief-monger." 59 They said: We heard a youth speak of them, who is called Ibrahim. 60 They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may bear witness." 61 They said: Is it thou who hast done this to our gods, O Abraham? 62 He answered: "Rather it was this supreme one who has done it. So ask them, if they can speak." 63 Then they turned to themselves and said: Surely you yourselves are the unjust; 64 And they were utterly confounded, and they said: Well thou knowest that these speak not. 65 Said [Abraham]: "Do you then worship, instead of God, something that cannot benefit you in any way, nor harm you? 66 Uff to you and to what you worship instead of Allah. Then will you not use reason?" 67 They said: burn him, and succour your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 We (Allah) said: "O fire! Be you coolness and safety for Ibrahim (Abraham)!" 69 Then they sought a stratagem against him: but We made them the ones that lost most! 70 But We delivered him and (his nephew) Lut (and directed them) to the land which We have blessed for the nations. 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in superfluity, and every one made We righteous 72 And We made them Imams who guided (people) by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good and the keeping up of prayer and the giving of the alms, and Us (alone) did they serve; 73 And (remember) Lout (Lot), We gave him Hukman (right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood) and (religious) knowledge, and We saved him from the town (folk) who practised Al-Khaba'ith (evil, wicked and filthy deeds, etc.). Verily, they were a people given to evil, and were Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient, to Allah). 74 And We brought him in unto Our mercy. Lo! he was of the righteous. 75
