۞ And We had certainly given Abraham his sound judgement before, and We were of him well-Knowing 51 Recall, when he said to his father and his people: "What are these images to which you are devoutly clinging?" 52 They said: We found our fathers worshippers of them. 53 He said: "You and your fathers were in clear error." 54 They said: Have you brought to us the truth, or are you one of the triflers? 55 He said: Nay! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who brought them into existence, and I am of those who bear witness to this: 56 Abraham said to himself, "By God! I will devise a plan against their idols when they are away." 57 He shattered them all, except the biggest among them, that perhaps they may question it. 58 (When the people came to the temple and saw the broken idols) they asked each other, "Who has done this to our gods? He certainly is an unjust person". 59 They said, 'We heard a young man making mention of them, and he was called Abraham.' 60 Said they: Then bring him before the eyes of the people, perhaps they may bear witness. 61 They said, 'So, art thou the man who did this unto our gods, Abraham?' 62 He said: rather he hath wrought it, this big one of them; so question them, if they ever speak. 63 Thereupon they turned to their (inner) selves and said (to themselves): "Surely it is you who are the wrong-doers." 64 Then they were made to hang down their heads: Certainly you know that they do not speak. 65 He said: What! do you then serve besides Allah what brings you not any benefit at all, nor does it harm you? 66 “Disgrace be upon you and all the idols whom you worship instead of Allah; so do you not have sense?” 67 They said: Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do (anything). 68 We said: O fire! be thou cool and peace unto Ibrahim. 69 They wished to entrap him, but We made them greater losers. 70 And We rescued him and Lot (and brought them) to the land which We have blessed for (all) peoples. 71 And We bestowed upon him ls-haq and Ya qub as a grandson; and each one We made righteous. 72 And We made them leaders guiding by Our command. And We inspired to them the doing of good deeds, establishment of prayer, and giving of zakah; and they were worshippers of Us. 73 We bestowed upon Lot sound judgement and knowledge, and We delivered him from the city that was immersed in foul deeds. They were indeed a wicked people, exceedingly disobedient. 74 whereas him We admitted unto Our grace: for, behold, he was among the righteous. 75
