There are among the people such who worship Allah and (yet stand) on the very edge. When goodness comes to him, he is content, but if a trial befalls him he falls upon his face, he loses this world and the Everlasting Life; that is indeed a clear loss. 11 He invokes, instead of Allah, those who can neither harm nor benefit him. That indeed is straying far away. 12 Their worship of such things, in which there is no hope for any benefit, can only harm them. How terrible is such a guardian and companion! 13 As for those who believe and do good works Allah will admit them to gardens underneath which rivers flow. Allah indeed does what He will. 14 If any think that Allah will not help him (His Messenger) in this world and the Hereafter, let him stretch out a rope to the ceiling and cut (himself) off: then let him see whether his plan will remove that which enrages (him)! 15 Thus have We sent down Clear Signs; and verily Allah doth guide whom He will! 16 Those who believe (in the Qur'an), those who follow the Jewish (scriptures), and the Sabians, Christians, Magians, and Polytheists,- Allah will judge between them on the Day of Judgment: for Allah is witness of all things. 17 Do you not see that to Allah prostrates whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth and the sun, the moon, the stars, the mountains, the trees, the moving creatures and many of the people? But upon many the punishment has been justified. And he whom Allah humiliates - for him there is no bestower of honor. Indeed, Allah does what He wills. ۩ 18 ۞ These two contrary kinds of man have become engrossed in contention about their Sustainer! But [thus it is:] as for those who are bent on denying the truth garments of fire shall be cut out for them [in the life to come]; burning despair will be poured over their heads, 19 Whereby that which is in their bellies, and their skins too, will be melted; 20 In addition there will be maces of iron (to punish) them. 21 Every time they wish to get away therefrom, from anguish, they will be forced back therein, and (it will be said), "Taste ye the Penalty of Burning!" 22
