And said the chiefs of those who disbelieved among his people and belied the meeting of the Hereafter and whom We had luxuriated in the life of the world: this is no other than a human being like unto you; he eateth of that whereof ye eat, and he drinketh of that which ye drink. 33 If you were to obey a human being like yourselves, you will certainly be losers. 34 What! does he threaten you that when you are dead and become dust and bones that you shall then be brought forth? 35 ۞ How far-fetched what you are promised; 36 "There is nothing but our life of this world! We die and we live! And we are not going to be resurrected! 37 He is not but a man who has invented a lie about Allah, and we will not believe him." 38 He said: O my Lord! help me against their calling me a liar. 39 He said: In a little while they surely will become repentant. 40 So the (Awful) Cry overtook them rightfully, and We made them like as wreckage (that a torrent hurleth). A far removal for wrongdoing folk! 41 Then We produced after them other generations. 42 [for,] no community can ever forestall [the end of] its term - and neither can they delay [its coming]. 43 Then We sent Our Messengers in succession. Yet whenever its Messenger came to a nation they belied him, so We made them follow others, and We made them but as tales, so begone the nation who did not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our miracles and clear authority 45 To Firon and his chiefs, but they behaved haughtily and they were an insolent people. 46 'What' they said, 'are we to believe in two mortals like us, whose nation are our worshipers' 47 So they denied them – therefore became of those who were destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book, that haply they would be guided; 49 We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign, and gave them a refuge on a hillside where there was a hollow and a spring. 50
