And the chieftains of his folk, who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and whom We had made soft in the life of the world, said: This is only a mortal like you, who eateth of that whereof ye eat and drinketh of that ye drink. 33 and, indeed, if you pay heed to a mortal like yourselves, you will surely be the losers! 34 Promiseth he unto you that ye, when ye have died and have become dust and bones, ye are to be brought forth? 35 ۞ What you are promised is indeed far-fetched. 36 There is nothing but our present life; we die, and we live, and we shall not be resurrected. 37 He is but a man who hath fabricated against God a lie, and in him we are not going to be believers. 38 He said, 'O my Lord, help me, for that they cry me lies.' 39 He said, 'In a little they will be remorseful.' 40 Then the Blast overtook them with justice, and We made them as rubbish of dead leaves (floating on the stream of Time)! So away with the people who do wrong! 41 After them We produced other generations 42 Every nation has an appointed life span. 43 We then sent our Noble Messengers, one after another; whenever a nation’s Noble Messenger came to it they denied him, We therefore united the succeeding with the old, and made them history; so far removed be the people who do not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our Signs and a clear authority 45 unto Pharaoh and his great ones; but these behaved with arrogance, for they were people wont to glorify [only] themselves. 46 They said: "Shall we believe in two men like ourselves? And their people are subject to us!" 47 So they denied them both [Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron)] and became of those who were destroyed. 48 And assuredly We vouchsafed unto Musa the Book, that haply they may be guided. 49 And We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign, and gave them shelter on an elevated ground, sequestered, watered by a spring. 50
