And the chiefs of his people, who disbelieved and denied the Meeting in the Hereafter, and on whom We had bestowed the good things of this life, said: "He is no more than a man like yourselves: he eats of that of which ye eat, and drinks of what ye drink. 33 If you follow a mortal like yourselves you will certainly be lost. 34 Does he promise you that when you are dead and are reduced to dust and bones, you will be brought forth to life? 35 ۞ Far-fetched, far-fetched indeed is what you are promised! 36 There is nothing but our present life; we die, and we live, and we shall not be resurrected. 37 He is only a man who hath invented a lie about Allah. We are not going to put faith in him. 38 He said, “My Lord! Help me as they deny me.” 39 He answered: "A short while, and they shall be repenting." 40 And then the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them, justly and unavoidably, and We caused them to become as the flotsam of dead leaves and the scum borne on the surface of a torrent: and so - away with those evildoing folk! 41 Then after them We brought forth other generations. 42 Every nation has an appointed life span. 43 We then sent our Noble Messengers, one after another; whenever a nation’s Noble Messenger came to it they denied him, We therefore united the succeeding with the old, and made them history; so far removed be the people who do not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our Signs and a clear authority 45 to Pharaoh and his Council, but they were very proud, and they were a tyrannical nation. 46 They said: "Shall we put faith in two mortals like ourselves when their people are slaves to us?" 47 They called them liars and consequently were destroyed. 48 And We certainly gave Moses the Scripture that perhaps they would be guided. 49 And [as We exalted Moses, so, too,] We made the son of Mary and his mother a symbol [of Our grace,] and provided for both an abode in a lofty place of lasting restfulness and unsullied springs. 50
