HENCE, [remember how it was] when thy Sustainer summoned Moses: "Go unto those evil doing people. 10 the nation of Pharaoh. Will they not fear Me' 11 He said, "My Lord, indeed I fear that they will deny me 12 and "my breast is straitened and my tongue is not fluent; so send Aaron as well; 13 "And (further), they have a charge of crime against me; and I fear they may slay me." 14 [Allah] said, "No. Go both of you with Our signs; indeed, We are with you, listening. 15 go both to Pharaoh and both of you say to him: 'We are (each) a Messenger from the Lord of all the Worlds. 16 ‘That you let the Descendants of Israel go with us.’” 17 [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] said [to Musa (Moses)]: "Did we not bring you up among us as a child? And you did dwell many years of your life with us. 18 Yet you committed the deed you did, surely you are one of the ingrates." 19 Moses replied: "I committed that act erringly. 20 so I fled from you, fearing you. But my Lord gave me Judgment and made me one of the Envoys. 21 But the favour you oblige me with is that you have enslaved the children of Israel." 22 Pharaoh said: "And what is the 'Lord and Cherisher of the worlds'?" 23 [Moses] answered: "[He is] the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them: if you would but [allow yourselves to] be convinced!" 24 Said [Pharaoh] unto those around him: "Did you hear [what he said]?" 25 [And Moses] continued: "[He is] your Sustainer, [too,] as well as the Sustainer of your forefathers of old!" 26 The Pharaoh said, "The Messenger who has been sent to you is certainly insane". 27 He said: The Lord of the east and the west and what is between them, if you understand. 28 Fir'awn said: if thou wilt take a god other than me, I shall surely place thee among the prisoners. 29 (Moses) said: "Even though I have brought to you something convincing?" 30 Pharaoh said, "Show it then, if you are telling the truth!" 31 So (Moses) threw his rod, and behold, it was a serpent, plain (for all to see)! 32 And he drew forth his hand, thereupon it shone bright before the beholders. 33
