When your Lord called upon Moses: "Go to the wicked people, 10 the people of Pharaoh; will they not be godfearing?' 11 'My Lord' he replied, 'I fear they will belie me 12 "My breast will be straitened. And my speech may not go (smoothly): so send unto Aaron. 13 And they have a crime against me, so I fear that they shall slay me. 14 God said, "Indeed not; go both of you with Our signs, We shall be with you, listening [to your call]. 15 So go you to Pharaoh, and say, "Verily, I am the Messenger of the Lord of all Being; 16 Then send with us the children of Israel. 17 Pharaoh said: "Did we not bring you up among us when you were a child? 18 And thou didst that thy deed which thou didst, and thou wast one of the ingrates. 19 He said: I did it then when I was mistaken. 20 So I fled from you when I feared you, then my Lord granted me wisdom and made me of the apostles; 21 But the favour you oblige me with is that you have enslaved the children of Israel." 22 Pharaoh said, "What is this: Lord of the Universe?" 23 He said: Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between, if ye seek to be convinced. 24 (The Pharaoh) said to those around him: "Do you hear?" 25 He said: your Lord and the Lord of your ancient fathers. 26 Pharaoh said to the audience: "This Messenger of yours who has been sent to you is simply mad." 27 Moses continued: "(He is) the Lord of the east and the west, and all between them. If you only had any understanding!" 28 Fir'awn said: if thou wilt take a god other than me, I shall surely place thee among the prisoners. 29 'What, even if I brought you something clear' said he (Moses). 30 Pharaoh said, "Show it then, if you are telling the truth!" 31 So (Moses) threw his rod, and behold, it was a serpent, plain (for all to see)! 32 And he drew out his hand; thereupon it was white for the observers. 33
