Said [pharaoh] unto the great ones around him: "Verily, this is indeed a sorcerer of great knowledge 34 He wants to expel you from your land through his magic. What is your opinion?" 35 They said, 'Put him and his brother off a while, and send among the cities musterers, 36 “To bring to you every expert great magician.” 37 So the wizards were gathered together at a set time on a day appointed. 38 And it was said unto the people: Are ye (also) gathering? 39 Belike we may follow the magicians if they are the winners? 40 Now when the sorcerers came, they said unto Pharaoh: "Verily, we ought to have a great reward if it is we who prevail. 41 He said, “Yes, and you will then become close to me.” 42 Musa (Moses) said to them: "Throw what you are going to throw!" 43 So they threw their ropes and their sticks, and said: "By the might of Fir'aun (Pharaoh), it is we who will certainly win!" 44 Then Musa cast down his staff and lo! it swallowed up the lies they told. 45 And down fell the sorcerers, prostrating themselves in adoration, 46 They said, “We have accepted faith in the Lord Of The Creation.” 47 The Lord of Moses and Aaron. 48 The Pharaoh said, "You believed without my permission? He seems to be your chief who has taught you magic. But you will soon know (the result of what you have done). I shall certainly cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides and crucify you all together." 49 They said, 'There is no harm; surely unto our Lord we are turning. 50 “We hope that our Lord will forgive us our mistakes, as we are the first to believe.” 51
