[Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] said to the chiefs around him: "Verily! This is indeed a well-versed sorcerer. 34 who desires to expel you from your land by his sorcery; what do you command?' 35 They said: "Put him and his brother off awhile, and send summoners to the cities to gather 36 And bring the ablest magicians to you." 37 So the magicians were assembled for the appointment of a well-known day. 38 and the people were told: "Will you join the assembly? 39 in order that we shall follow the sorcerers if they are the victors' 40 So when the magicians came, they said to Firaun, “Will we get some reward if we are victorious?” 41 He said: "Yes, and you shall then verily be of those brought near (to myself)." 42 Moses said to them: "Throw ye - that which ye are about to throw!" 43 So they cast their ropes and their staffs, and said, 'By the might of Pharaoh we shall be the victors.' 44 Then Moses cast down his staff and suddenly it swallowed up what they had falsely invented. 45 So the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]. 46 Saying: "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 47 The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 48 Pharaoh said: "You accepted the word of Moses even before I granted you the leave to do so. Surely he is your chief who has taught you magic. Soon shall you come to know. I shall cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides and shall crucify all of you." 49 They said: "There will be no harm. We shall return to our Lord. 50 We certainly hope our Lord will forgive our sins as we are the first to believe." 51
