Now what do you advise?" 35 They said: Give him and his brother respite and send heralds into the cities 36 Who will bring you every learned, skilled magician." 37 So the magicians were assembled at a set time on a day made known. 38 And it was said to the people: Will you gather together? 39 in order that we shall follow the sorcerers if they are the victors' 40 And when the wizards came they said unto Pharaoh: Will there surely be a reward for us if we are the winners? 41 'Yes, indeed' he answered, 'and you shall become among those who are near stationed' 42 Moses said to them, "Throw whatever you will throw." 43 Thereupon they threw down their ropes and their rods, and said: "By the glory of Pharaoh, we shall prevail." 44 Then Moses threw down his staff, and it swallowed up all that they had conjured into being. 45 Then did the sorcerers fall down, prostrate in adoration, 46 Saying: "We believe in the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 47 the Lord of Moses and Aaron.' 48 [Pharaoh] said, "You believed Moses before I gave you permission. Indeed, he is your leader who has taught you magic, but you are going to know. I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will surely crucify you all." 49 They said: "No matter! for us, we shall but return to our Lord! 50 Surely we hope that our Lord will forgive us our wrongs because we are the first of the believers. 51
