And recite to them the story of Ibrahim (Abraham). 69 When he said to his father and his people: What do you worship? 70 They said, "We worship idols and will continue to cling to them." 71 He said: Do they hear you when ye cry? 72 Do they help or harm you?" 73 They said, 'Nay, but we found our fathers so doing.' 74 He said: Have you then considered what you have been worshipping: 75 you and your forefathers -- 76 are my enemies? Not so the Lord of the Universe. 77 Who hath created me, and He guideth me. 78 He Who feedeth me and giveth me to drink. 79 and heals me when I am sick. 80 And He Who shall cause me to die, and then shall quicken me. 81 And who, I hope, will condone my faults on the Day of Judgement. 82 “My Lord, bestow me the command and join me with those who deserve your proximity.” 83 And grant me a reputation of honor among later generations. 84 and place me among those who shall inherit the garden of bliss! 85 And forgive my father, for surely he is of those who have gone astray; 86 Degrade me not upon the day when they are raised up, 87 the day when neither wealth nor sons shall profit 88 Save him who bringeth unto Allah a whole heart. 89 And Paradise will be brought near [that Day] to the righteous. 90 And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators, 91 And it will be said to them, "Where are those you used to worship 92 "'Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?' 93 Then they shall be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 And the hosts of Iblis all together. 95 And they, while contending therein, shall say: 96 'By God, we were certainly in manifest error 97 "'When we held you as equals with the Lord of the Worlds; 98 And none led us astray except the culprits. 99 So we have no intercessors, 100 “Nor a caring friend.” 101 Were there for us a return, we would be of the believers. 102 There is certainly a sign in that, but most of them would not believe: 103 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Ever Compassionate. 104
