Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 Behold, he said to his father and his people: "What worship ye?" 70 They said, "We worship idols and will continue to cling to them." 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 "Or do you good or harm?" 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing so." 74 (Abraham) said, "Do you know that what you worship 75 you and those ancient forebears of yours? 76 "For they are enemies to me; not so the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds; 77 Who hath created me, and He guideth me. 78 and He gives me to eat and drink, 79 who, when I am sick, heals me; 80 And who will cause me to die and then bring me to life 81 "And who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the day of Judgment. 82 O Lord, give me wisdom and admit me among the righteous, 83 give me a good name among later generations; 84 And put me among the inheritors of Paradise. 85 “And forgive my father* – he is indeed astray.” (His paternal uncle) 86 And disgrace me not on the day when they are raised 87 the day when neither wealth nor sons shall profit 88 "But only he (will prosper) that brings to Allah a sound heart; 89 And the garden shall be brought near for those who guard (against evil), 90 And the hell shall be made manifest to the erring ones, 91 And it will be said to them: "Where are those (the false gods whom you used to set up as rivals with Allah) that you used to worship 92 Beside Allah? Can they succour you or succour themselves? 93 Then they will be thrown headlong into Hell, both they and the misguided ones, 94 "And the whole hosts of Iblis together. 95 They will say while contending therein, 96 By Allah, we were truly in a manifest error, 97 when we deemed you [false deities] equal to the Sustainer of all the worlds 98 No one but the sinners led us astray. 99 Now we have none to intercede for us, 100 Nor a close friend (to help us). 101 Then if we only had a return [to the world] and could be of the believers... " 102 Indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 103 And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
