And convey unto them the story of Abraham 69 When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?" 70 They answered: "There are some idols that we worship and are devoted to them with constancy." 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 Or, benefit they you or hurt they you? 73 They replied: 'No, but we found our fathers doing so' 74 He said: 'Have you considered what you worship, 75 Ye and your fathers of old? 76 Indeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds, 77 Who created me and Who guides me; 78 And He Who gives me to eat and gives me to drink: 79 and when I fall ill, is the One who restores me to health, 80 "Who will cause me to die, and then to life (again); 81 It is He whom I expect to forgive my sins on the Day of Judgment. 82 My Lord! Vouchsafe me wisdom and unite me to the righteous. 83 And uphold my name with posterity, 84 And put me among the inheritors of Paradise. 85 “And forgive my father* – he is indeed astray.” (His paternal uncle) 86 Do not degrade me on the Day when they are resurrected. 87 "The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 "But only he (will prosper) that brings to Allah a sound heart; 89 And the garden shall be brought near for those who guard (against evil), 90 And the (Hell) Fire will be placed in full view of the erring. 91 and they will be asked: "Where now is all that you were wont to worship 92 Other than God? Can they save you or even save themselves?" 93 Then they shall be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 And all the armies of Iblis. (Satan) 95 "Quarrelling therein with each other, 96 'By Allah, we were certainly in clear error, 97 When we equalled you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 yet they who have seduced us [into believing in you] are the truly guilty ones! 99 We have no one to intercede for us before God 100 “Nor a caring friend.” 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 104
