And recite unto them the story of Ibrahim. 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They replied: 'We worship idols and continue cleaving to them' 71 'Do they hear you when you call on them' He asked. 72 Or, benefit they you or hurt they you? 73 They said, 'Nay, but we found our fathers so doing.' 74 He said: have ye observed that which ye worship 75 you and your forefathers -- 76 "Now [as for me, I know that,] verily, these [false deities] are my enemies, [and that none is my helper] save the Sustainer of all the worlds, 77 Who created me and showed me the way, 78 "Who gives me food and drink, 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me, 80 He will cause me to die and will bring me back to life. 81 “And the One Who, upon Whom I pin my hopes, will forgive me my mistakes on the Day of Judgement.” 82 My Lord! Vouchsafe me wisdom and unite me to the righteous. 83 "Grant me honourable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations); 84 and make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 "And forgive my father - for, verily, he is among those who have gone astray 86 And humiliate me not on the Day whereon people shall be raised. 87 The Day whereon will profit neither substance nor sons. 88 “Except he who presented himself before Allah, with a sound* heart.” (Intact or unblemished.) 89 (On that Day) the Garden will be brought near to the God-fearing, 90 And the Fierce Fire shall be made apparent unto the seduced ones. 91 "And it shall be said to them: 'Where are the (gods) ye worshipped- 92 Besides Allah? Can they help you or yet help themselves? 93 They will then be thrown into Hell with those who had gone astray 94 and so too the hosts of Iblis, all of them. 95 They shall say while they contend therein: 96 "By God, we were most obviously astray 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 It is none but those steeped in guilt who led us into this error, 99 We have no intercessors now, 100 "'Nor a single friend to feel (for us). 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 Indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 103 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 104

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
