Recite unto them the story of Abraham: 69 When he said to his father and his people, “What do you worship?” 70 They said: we worship idols, and we are unto them ever devoted 71 He said, 'Do they hear you when you call, 72 Or do they benefit you, or do you harm?" 73 They said: Nay, we found our fathers doing so. 74 He said, "Then do you see what you have been worshipping, 75 you and your fathers, the elders? 76 Indeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds, 77 "Who has created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 And it is He who feeds me and gives me drink. 79 “And when I fall ill, so it is He Who heals me.” 80 who makes me to die and then revives me, 81 It is He whom I expect to forgive my sins on the Day of Judgment. 82 "O my Sustainer! Endow me with the ability to judge [between right and wrong,] and make me one with the righteous, 83 and grant me an honourable reputation among posterity, 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Delight. 85 “And forgive my father* he is indeed astray.” (His paternal uncle) 86 and disgrace me not on the Day when people will be raised to life, 87 the day when neither wealth nor sons shall profit 88 Except him who comes to Allah with a heart free (from evil). 89 And Paradise shall be brought forward for the godfearing, 90 And the hell shall be made manifest to the erring ones, 91 And it will be said to them, “Where are those whom you used to worship?” 92 Other than Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?" 93 And they will be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 And the hosts of Iblis all together. 95 And there and then, blaming one another, they [who had grievously sinned in life] will exclaim: 96 By Allah, of a truth we were in error manifest 97 when we assigned to you a position equal to that of the Lord of the Universe. 98 yet they who have seduced us [into believing in you] are the truly guilty ones! 99 Now we have no intercessors, 100 And not a devoted friend. 101 If only we could return and be among the believers!" 102 Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 103 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 104
