And recite to them the story of Ibrahim. 69 When he said unto his father and his folk: What worship ye? 70 They said: We worship idols, and are ever devoted unto them. 71 He said: hearken they unto you when ye cry? 72 "Or do they benefit you or do they harm (you)?" 73 They said, 'Nay, but we found our fathers so doing.' 74 Said [Abraham]: "Have you, then, ever considered what it is that you have been worshipping 75 “You and your forefathers preceding you.” 76 are my enemies? Not so the Lord of the Universe. 77 He created me and He will guide me. 78 And it is He who feeds me and gives me drink. 79 And when I am ill, it is He who cures me 80 Who will cause me to die and then will again restore me to life; 81 and who, [hope, will forgive me my faults on Judgment Day! 82 My Lord, give me judgment, and join me with the righteous. 83 and grant me an honourable reputation among posterity, 84 and make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 and forgive my father, for he is one of those astray. 86 Do not betray me 87 The day on which property will not avail, nor sons 88 except him who comes before Allah with a pure heart; 89 Paradise will be brought near those who take heed for themselves and follow the straight path; 90 And hell will be revealed for the astray. 91 It will be said to them: 'Where is that you worshipped, 92 Beside Allah? Can they succour you or succour themselves? 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 "And the whole hosts of Iblis together. 95 Disputing among themselves they will say: 96 "By Allah, we were surely in clear error 97 In equating you with the Lord of all the worlds; 98 "'And our seducers were only those who were steeped in guilt. 99 "'Now, then, we have none to intercede (for us), 100 nor do we have a truly sincere friend. 101 Were there for us a return, we would be of the believers. 102 Verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 103 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 104
