And convey unto them the story of Abraham 69 when he asked his father and his people, "What is that which you worship?" 70 They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted." 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 Or do they profit you or cause you harm? 73 They said: Nay, we found our fathers doing so. 74 He said: "Have you considered what you have been worshipping, 75 "Ye and your fathers before you?- 76 Surely they are enemies to me, but not (so) the Lord of the worlds; 77 Who created me, then He has shown me the way: 78 and He gives me to eat and drink, 79 "And when I am ill, it is He Who cures me; 80 "And Who will cause me to die, and then will bring me to life (again); 81 "And Who, I hope will forgive me my faults on the Day of Recompense, (the Day of Resurrection)," 82 O Lord, give me wisdom and admit me among the righteous, 83 And uphold my name with posterity, 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 And forgive my father. Lo! he is of those who err. 86 And disgrace me not on the Day when (all the creatures) will be resurrected; 87 "The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 except what is done in obedience to God with a submissive heart. 89 And Paradise shall be brought forward for the godfearing, 90 And the (Hell) Fire will be placed in full view of the erring. 91 who will be asked, "What did you worship 92 “Instead of Allah? Will they help you or retaliate?” 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 and so too the hosts of Iblis, all of them. 95 And they will say, when they are quarrelling therein: 96 'By God, we were certainly in manifest error 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 And no one misguided us except the criminals. 99 and now we have none to intercede on our behalf, 100 nor any loving friend. 101 But if we could but once return, we would be of the believers. 102 There is certainly a sign in that, but most of them would not believe: 103 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 104
