Recite unto them the story of Abraham: 69 When he said unto his father and his people: what worship ye? 70 They answered: "There are some idols that we worship and are devoted to them with constancy." 71 'Do they hear you when you call on them' He asked. 72 Or do they profit you or cause you harm? 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing thus (what we do)." 74 He said, “Do you see these – (the idols) whom you worship?” 75 You and your fathers? 76 "Now [as for me, I know that,] verily, these [false deities] are my enemies, [and that none is my helper] save the Sustainer of all the worlds, 77 "Who created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 He Who feedeth me and giveth me to drink. 79 And when I am ill, it is He who cures me 80 And He Who will cause me to die, then give me life; 81 It is He whom I expect to forgive my sins on the Day of Judgment. 82 (And then Abraham prayed): "My Lord, endow me with knowledge and wisdom and join me with the righteous, 83 “And give me proper fame among the succeeding generations.” 84 and make me of those who will inherit the Garden of Bliss, 85 and forgive my father, for he is one of those astray. 86 And disgrace me not on the day when they are raised 87 the Day when nothing will avail, neither wealth nor offspring, 88 [and when] only he [will be happy] who comes before God with a heart free of evil!" 89 "To the righteous, the Garden will be brought near, 90 and the Fire will be uncovered for those who strayed, 91 and they will be asked: "Where now is all that you were wont to worship 92 Besides Allah? Can they help you or yet help themselves? 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 Together with the hordes of Iblis. 95 They shall say while they contend therein: 96 "By God, we were most obviously astray 97 when we considered you equal to the Lord of the Universe. 98 And none led us astray except the culprits. 99 and we have no intercessors now, 100 And not a devoted friend. 101 But if we could but once return, we would be of the believers. 102 Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 Surely, Your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
