And recite to them the news of Ibrahim. 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted." 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? 72 Or, benefit they you or hurt they you? 73 They answered: "No; but we found our forefathers doing so." 74 Thereupon, Abraham said: "Have you seen (with your eyes) those whom you have been worshipping, 75 "You and your ancient fathers? 76 They are all enemies to me; all, except the Lord of the Universe 77 “The One Who created me, so He will guide me.” 78 And it is He who feeds me and gives me drink. 79 who, when I am sick, heals me; 80 who makes me to die, then gives me life, 81 And who, I hope, will condone my faults on the Day of Judgement. 82 My Lord, give me judgment, and join me with the righteous. 83 And grant me an honourable mention in later generations; 84 And make me of the heirs of the garden of bliss 85 and forgive my father, for he is one of those astray. 86 "And let me not be in disgrace on the Day when (men) will be raised up;- 87 The Day whereon will profit neither substance nor sons. 88 but only he that brings to Allah a sound heart will (attain to success)." 89 and Paradise shall be brought forward to the cautious. 90 And Hell made visible to those who had gone astray. 91 It will be said to them: 'Where is that you worshipped, 92 "Instead of Allah? Can they help you or (even) help themselves?" 93 Then they shall be hurled therein, they and the seduced ones. 94 And the hosts of Iblis, together. 95 And there and then, blaming one another, they [who had grievously sinned in life] will exclaim: 96 “By oath of Allah, we were indeed in open error.” 97 “When we considered you equal to the Lord Of The Creation.” 98 "'And our seducers were only those who were steeped in guilt. 99 “So now we do not have any intercessors.” (The believers shall have intercessors, the disbelievers none). 100 nor do we have a truly sincere friend. 101 If only we could return and be among the believers!" 102 Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 103 Your Lord is certainly Majestic and All-merciful. 104
