The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 And seek ye out strongholds, that haply ye may last for ever? 129 and when you strike you strike like tyrants? 130 So be fearful of God and follow me. 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 He has given you abundance of cattle and children 133 And gardens and springs. 134 I fear the punishment of a terrible day for you. 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 And we shall not be doomed. 138 So they belied him, and We destroyed them. Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
